AC Shadows Introduces Surprising AoT Collaboration for Holiday Season
In a unexpected partnership that defies conventional expectations, Ubisoft has unveiled an digital partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual Thanksgiving event operates from November 25 through December 22, offering free bonus story content for Shadows players.
Mysterious Mission Disclosed
According to the official announcement, "An unusual confrontation pulls characters Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh quest, where whispers of banned ceremonies and monstrous transformations echo through the darkness." The storyline presents a "oddly attired woman named Ada" who assigns the characters with traveling into the Crystalline Cavern—a key location from Attack on Titan—to liberate her friend from a clandestine sect.
The questline focuses on "bizarre experiments and a terrifying enemy" and is accessible to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.
Recognizable Settings and Metamorphoses
The trailer highlights the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan redesigned as the Crystal Cave. This important location was formerly where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through eras. The trailer concludes with a striking sequence showing a character, presumably the prisoner, morphing into a Titan that looms over Naoe and Yasuke.
Special Rewards and Extra Content
Players who successfully complete the adventure will receive an exclusive katana in addition to multiple objects hidden throughout the area in hidden chests. The update also contains in-store Attack on Titan item packs, including:
- Titan-themed outfit for Yasuke
- Mikasa costume for Naoe
- Special implements
- Survey Corps mount
Latest Free Story Update
This update also adds the game's newest no-cost story content, titled "The Enigma." This lighthearted quest teams Naoe and Yasuke as they swap characteristic abilities: Naoe reveals a performative version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns non-lethal stealth takedowns. Loyal to its name, "The Mystery" also includes a new environmental puzzle that may eventually explain some unanswered questions from the main storyline.
Past Japanese Animation Crossovers
This represents not the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has crossed over with well-known anime properties. The series previously featured a 2020 collaborative story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla subtly featured a quest that unmistakably echoed the famous series One-Punch Man.
