Catherine's Annual Festive Service of Carols Honours Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary Christmas carol concert at the iconic London venue, with a congregation comprising members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have supported their local areas.

The sizable congregation will listen to a selection of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Focusing on Love and Generosity

The theme of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Among the guests will be a couple named the Cordiners, whose child passed away from a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a child with a terminal illness.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an remarkable change to the lives of others," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to official duties subsequent to her illness and medical care, in November making her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Attendees entering the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers aided by the Future Talent charity, set up with the help of the former royal to widen access to instrumental training.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who is a trumpet player and is from southwest Wales, has been assisted by the trust, with grants helping towards equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "amazing" to be performing at the evening's event.

"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now a student at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to develop their musical skills.

A Family Affair

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will encompass Saphia Turner, aged nine, winner of a youth community award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for local food charities.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Taking to the stage will be singer Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."

This annual carol service will be broadcast on television on December 24th.
